The enclosed sample merges demonstrate ways in which Email Merge can be used for real-world problems. A description of each example follows:
• Product Press Release. This sample shows a very simple merge, where a near-identical message is sent to a number of different email addresses. Each email address also has a name attached, for inclusion in both the recipient and the message body. You may also notice the inclusion of the short date field.
• Student Grading. This sample shows a merge with several fields, where the message is different for each recipient. You may also notice that there is no email address field in the database – in an organization where addressing is uniform, it is possible to build the email address out of its separate components.
• Overdue Amount. This sample shows importing directly from FileMaker Pro. To use it, open both the Overdue Amount Merge and Overdue Amount FMP Database documents. Click Find Overdue in the FileMaker Pro database then switch to Email Merge and click Import Data to import from the front FileMaker Pro database. All the displayed fields in the currently shown records will automatically be imported into Email Merge.
